Talking Health with Today's Chiropractors

What is this pain in my back?

Tuesday, January 17, 2017

Education is key, so this week we will be talking about Disc Bulge and Herniation. Bulging or herniated discs can appear in the Neck, Low Back, Middle & Upper Back. Located between the vertebrae of your spine are 23 discs, which act as a spacer and shock absorber. These discs have soft, gel-like centers surrounded by layers of fibrous tissues. Sometimes, due to an injury or just aging, the material in the middle of the disc pushes to one side or even ruptures. This is called a bulging or herniated disc and you might be familiar with the discomfort that is associated with it.

Looking for help?

The following strategies may help you reduce your chance of having a herniated disk:

1.  Chiropractic Adjustments.

2.  Practice good posture: standing and sitting straight, keeping your back straight when lifting.

3.  Maintain a healthy weight.

4.  Exercise regularly.

5.  Ask your chiropractor about exercises to strengthen your back and stomach.

6.  Steer away from wear high-heeled shoes.

7.  If you sit, get out of your chair every 20 to 25 minutes and walk for several minutes.

What is Chiropractic?

Can chiropractic help a compromised immune system?

Monday, January 09, 2017

Fighting off infections during this time of the year is hard when you have a compromised immune system. When you have an immunodeficiency the body has a difficult time fighting infections and as a result you are more prone to getting frequent infections that typically last longer.

Chiropractic can help suppress the immune system:

New research shows that white blood cells increase with chiropractic adjustments. A smaller study showed that the immune response of HIV-positive patients increased as measured by their CD4 count with chiropractic adjustments. So the next time you want to cancel your appointment because you’re too sick, remember a chiropractic adjustment is just what the doctor ordered.

A chiropractor is a health care professional focused on the diagnosis and treatment neuromuscular disorders, with an emphasis on treatment through manual adjustment and/or manipulation of the spine. Most chiropractors seek to reduce pain and improve the functionality of patients as well as to educate them on how they can account for their own health via exercise, ergonomics and other therapies to treat back pain. Chiropractic is generally categorized as alternative medicine or complementary medicine. Fargo Chiropractors focus on the intimate relationship between the nervous system and spine, and hold true the following beliefs: Biomechanical and structural derangement of the spine can affect the nervous system, and for many conditions, chiropractic treatment can restore the structural integrity of the spine, reduce pressure on the sensitive neurological tissue, and consequently improve the health of the individual. Doctors of Chiropractic (DCs) care for patients of all ages, with a variety of health conditions. DCs are especially well known for their expertise in caring for patients with back pain, neck pain and headaches...particularly with their highly skilled manipulations or chiropractic adjustments. Fargo chiropractors also care for patients with a wide range of injuries and disorders of the musculoskeletal system, involving the muscles, ligaments and joints. These painful conditions often involve or impact the nervous system, which can cause referred pain and dysfunction distant to the region of injury. The benefits of chiropractic care extend to general health issues, as well, since our body structure affects our overall function. Fargo chiropractors also counsel patients on diet, nutrition, exercise, healthy habits, and occupational and lifestyle modification.
Chiropractic is well established in the U.S., Canada and Australia. It overlaps with other manual-therapy professions, including massage therapy, osteopathy, and physical therapy. Back and neck pain are the specialties of chiropractic but many Fargo chiropractors treat ailments other than musculoskeletal issues. Most who seek Fargo chiropractic care do so for low back pain. Chiropractors emphasize the conservative management of the neuromusculoskeletal system without the use of medicines or surgery, with special emphasis on the spine.
